Turkeys wouldn’t vote for Christmas, but Winnie the Pig was there campaigning to get us to buy British.
Even though the old mum had bathed, and was looking her beautiful best, it wasn’t enough. The authorities would not allow a pig to trot into Downing Street.
Imagine the headlines. Imagine the security risk.
The ever-vigilant police even separated Winnie from the farmers, who were surprised to be ordered off to their own pen.

"..Maybe Mr Brown should lead the way and get himself a bulldog. I remember the "I'm backing Britain" promotion when Mrs Thatcher was in Downing Street and that was very successful."
I think he has already got a bulldog, I have seen her a few times on Question Time.

Madnurse,
Pigs are very particular about who they mix with, so maybe the M.P.'s were concerned that they may have been snubbed, although I think your suggestion is probably nearer the truth!

"The authorities would not risk allowing a pig trot into Downing Street."
In case it got mixed up with some of the other members of parliament...?

Perhaps there was no room for any more snouts in the trough.

We should all try and buy British, whenever possible, and although we cannot be forced to do this, let's hope that the picture of Winnie the Pig will result in the pen being mightier than the sword!
