April Fool, Prime Minister?
01 April 2008

Gordon Brown is holding his "regular" News Conference today. You can see it live on Sky News from 1230.

Wisely the Prime Minister is waiting until after noon, so there shouldn't be any seasonal japes to match his gift of mince pies at Christmas time..

However since there wasn't a news conference last month, my guess is that this will be it for April. By speaking now Mr Brown is getting the airtime just ahead of the rules on balance coming into force for the Local Election Campaign.

Craig,

Your support for Red Ken amounts to nothing as you won't be voting in next month's London Mayoral election.

Craig
I can't believe that you are serious about Boris being a "buffoon". He has been the MP for Henly for a good number of years, take a look at his website, he takes his politics seriously, his constituents believe in him.
How well do you really know Boris?

Bruce Hulmes
There are many truths in your posting.
Brown is off to talk NATO into providing more troops for the lost causes of Iraq and Afghanistan today. Too many are losing their lives in both wars and hugh amounts of money being ploughed in. Sensible people would call it a day when no results are achieved from something...but not this Labour government, throw good people and good money to lost campaigns.
Wake up and smell the poppies.

It will be hard for Gordon Brown or his government to accept that immigration has not worked in Britain. This government invented mass immigration into Britain, the number of times Mr Hain spouted how good it was to have the skills of all the immigrants. If Brown accepted the report's findings it would mean that he and his government were wrong...failure and Mr Brown will never admit to being wrong.
Difficult to change the past only possible to shape the future.

Come on folks. I am a Scot as you know. Surely Londoners couldn't vote for bufoon Boris. Could they? I really thought that it was a joke when he was first being considered to run. I support Ken as he has a proven record but Brian Paddock would at least be able to articulate the views of Londoners on the world stage, whilst Boris would be a laughing stock. Whatever you think of Ken, he has gravitas that Boris will never have.

If he performs like that I think the Conservatives will be happy for him to appear every day up to election day.

We are letting foreign migrants in only on a points basis? Liam Byrne appeared later still talking about how they are going to introduce that method at some future time.

We now know that Labour's cunning plan is to make promises and policy but never to execute either unless it is a tax-gathering mechanism.

It now appears that as well as lying on immigration the governemt are having to admit to the lie that they would bring the troops home by some Christmas or other.
On his attempt to get out of halting immigration, he is bring up the hold myth about skills.
Well we at one time had enough skilled people to build the best, ships, aeroplanes, nuclear reactors, medical equipment, computers, roads, etc etc in the world, it was not we the people that put an end to these skills but past Governemnts and Labour were as bad as the Tories.
So to correct this problem may I suggest we spend more time effort and money teaching our own children, instead of filling our schools and classrooms with children who can't speak English and who's presence drags the whole class down.
The we could work at re-introducing family life, instead of the prefered single mother with her boyfriends name tattooed on her arm.
But that is not exactly what New Labour wants, it wants a multicultured multicoloured nation of low achievers who can be dominated and manipulated, it is what you call Communism.

A Cap and a withdrawal from EU immigration policy is the only way to ensure that we're not holding a pint pot trying to hold a gallon.

Also, it is gibberish to say Brown is 'taking action' when that action is insufficient to remedy the problem, despite a Lords committee has given prudent and unbiased judgement on the issue.

I don't see the relevance of an argument either, given the same people say that a Lords Committee saying the Reform Treaty vs a Constitutional change 'should' also be listened to.

Labour are continuing to show two faces.

What's scary is the way the Establishment are at last willing to tell the truth: this must mean it's too late.

Adam,

Your summary seems to imply that Gordon is not accepting the Lords' report on immigration. Whereas my impression of what he actually said is that he was taking action, re a number of the issues that the Lords have recommended, the only difference is that The Government don't think that 'capping' is the right way to limit immigration but would rather look at 'skills' needed.
So, I don't think that it is fair to say he is not accepting the report if he has said that he has taken on board and put into practice already, many of their recommendations.

Just watched the video of Ken
"smashing the new Labour machine" yada yada yada!
How did it feel Mr Brown to be ground into the dust by London's Mayor?

Mr Brown...questions, questions, questions. He really has a problem answering them. But he has been saved by NATO..he will not be at PMQ's tomorrow, aren't we lucky!
What is all this "gushing" about Ken, there was a time when Ken was shown the door by Labour. Why do they need him now, he would probably do better if he were an independant if he wants the support of Londoners.

And guess what I got through my door which went straight into the bin. A campaign leaflet from none other than Ken Livingstone! Come on [Barbie Girl] lets have an [Aqua]

mike

this would be the same red ken who's best mates with Hugo Chavez and Yusuf al-qaradawi (among others),

Also exactly how many 'gaffs' has Boris made since he seriously started to run for mayor?

I thought that the biggest joke I have heard so far was David "Charlatan" Cameron backing that buffoon Boris Johnson for London Mayor. I might not be Red Ken's biggest fan, but I dread to think the gaffes-a-plenty coming London's way and the loss to its reputation if 'Barmy Boris' gets in by default.

Oh dear! not another example of how not to speak in public.
Will this be the "Two Bonnies" show, or will Mr Brown be brave enough to come out alone, without having his hand held.

Perhaps he'll finally admit that the last 11 years of Labour "government" have been one long April Fool's joke, and they haven't really virtually bankrupt the country at all...

*sigh*

It'd be nice, wouldn't it...

McBrown might have wanted to avoid any jokes today but is anyone interested in anything other than the joke of endless immigration that have had the last laugh with us?

The truth about immigration is out there, are Labour going to apologize?
Now that is a joke!
