We spent ages yesterday trying to find a good picture of Tamsin Dunwoody - daughter of Gwyneth, and Labour candidate for the Crewe and Nantwich by-election - for Boulton & Co.
We should have linked to this excellent blog...
It is an example of how valuable smaller, local media concerns can be.
Even though we have three picture agencies at our disposal, we couldn't get hold of an up-to-date picture - and certainly not one of Ms Dunwoody with the Justice Secretary in the town where she's fighting the election.
Many a story has been started on a blog...Labour MPs' disquiet over the 10p tax; questions about donations to Peter Hain's deputy leadership campaign...
In the run up to the by-election maybe David Cameron, Gordon Brown and Nick Clegg should ask the author of the Crewe blog if they can write a guest post.
It would be an original way to get their message across - and it could be really effective.

Carol Ann.
Another good one " a younger MP" not much younger and its not about public service or she could go to the WI. No its about keeping cushy well paid jobs out of the hands of people like you.

Anne
One might also say that it was a mark of respect. All the party leaders were present except Brown who is in Ireland.
So, yes, you are cynical.

Cameron and Osborne weren't sending out a 'message' or 'dog whistle' to the electorate by their attendance at Mrs. Dunwoody's funeral surely?
Nothing to do with the bye-election at all?
Perhaps I'm just cynical?

Well I just hope that the wonderful people of Wales dont allow emotions to get in the way of chocie, however, tragic such departures may be.
As we all go about [Lost In thought] let us bear this in mind [Jon Hopkins]. "Blue skies cheer the soul, whilst red skies at night are not always the shepherd delight!

Labour in Crewe are on Edward Timpson's case because he does not live in Crewe. Quite right, he lives a whole enormous 15 miles away - practically a foreigner.
Gwyneth Dunwoody was parachuted in originally from Devon and Tamsin Dunwoody lives in Wales.
This type of cynical double standard should be deplored. Mr. Timpson is not poor - his father was a working man who made good and is a noted philanthropist. That makes it a crime and makes Mr Timpson a "toff".

Being a freelance photographer and loving the quality of your pictures, I was wondering why you don't credit the photographer or the agency even. Sometimes I would love to see more of a certain photographer for inspiration and ideas. The pictures play a big part in the blog because they reflect quality as soon as you see the page, so why not give credit where it's due ?

I remember, as a child, that if you went south on the train you always had to 'change at Crewe' and there was many a saucy postcard based around that statement - usually involving undergarments, lol.
Let us hope that it doesn't transform into a tabloid headline after the by-election and the only change is a younger MP carrying on a strong tradition of public service, like her mother, on behalf of the people of Crewe and Nantwich!

I was wondering why Jack Straw was with Tamsin Dunwoody and not Gordon. He should be supporting her in person - not sending someone else on his behalf.
He couldn't even face the cameras, let alone Tamsin.
