Back From Belfast

MuralI've just come back from Belfast following Prime Minister's visit yesterday and have been mulling over the trip.

Belfast itself has, on the surface at least, transformed since my last visit nearly a decade and a half ago.

As a member of Ayr Rugby Club's illustrious under-16s squad, I recall being struck by the murals, the kerbs daubed in sectarian shades, the parts of town labelled Catholic or Protestant.

These sights not entirely alien to someone brought up on Scotland's west coast, where religious divide also exists, but the intransigence of the divided parties shocked me.

Oh give over Craig. Tony Blair sent his children half way across London to the prestigious London Oratory when there were any number of schools nearer home. Diane Abbott(hypocrite) sends her son to a private school and I'll bet if I were to research the subject I could come up with dozens of Labour MPs who have followed her lead. Most caring parents would do the same.

Niall

That is good news about Northern Ireland. I had at one time given up all hope for a peaceful outcome there. Perhaps it is time to consider a Federation of Ireland now.

Craig

I cannot imagine what this has to do with Northern Ireland but you obviously do not have children.

Any parent who will sacrifice the welfare of ther own child to make a political point is a bad parent.

Please make a fuss now over the school choices of Tony Blair, Harriet Harman and Diane Abbott. Shall I enlarge the list for you?

The "Tale of Two Schools" tells us much about Gordon Brown and David Cameron.

The Labour Prime Minister is sending his young son to the local school, which has many pupils from poorer families, half receiving free school meals.

The Conservative leader is ignoring 15 local schools, yes that's FIFTEEN local schools, to get his daughter into a very nice middle-class school where most parents are well-off.

So who do you think will look after the best interests of every kid?

Come on folks - Lets have a straw poll!!

Absolutely brilliant. Cherie attacks Brown. That must be worth a 5% swing in the polls to Labour by the fickle British public. They hate her more than Brown and will rally round him now. Well done Cherie. Keep it up!!
