You really have to wonder with everything that's going on with the economy today, is going to school even worth it anymore. I know so many people that went to school only to end up working the same jobs as people who only have high school degrees, only they were left with tens of thousands of dollars of debt.
Obviously this isn't the case for everyone, people that focused on college majors that prepared them for careers that offered a good amount of jobs to graduates did very well. It's just that sometimes knowing what those careers are is not always that easy. Industries change very quickly and sometimes the data lags. Jobs that were expanding over the last two years are now over-saturated while new emerging industries, the few that there are, offer opportunities for those in the know.
I think unless someone has a clear idea of what their educational goals are and has done the proper research before starting to make sure they are studying in an area that will lead to employment, I just don't know if it's worth it. Don't get me wrong, I think education is a great thing but the fact is higher education is extremely expensive and most people go to college with the expectation that it will lead to a career.
When these jobs fail to manifest, students are forced to take lower wage jobs, sometimes even part-time just to survive while being overwhelmed with student loan debts. If you are planning on attending college any time soon, do a little research and make sure the area that you're studying will lead to a healthy career and not a dead-end.
